Worship of Almighty God is central to life here at FBC Mossy Head. The Lord is worthy of all adoration, honor, and praise. For who He is, we offer Him worship. For all He has done and will do, we give Him thanks. Led by the Spirit of God, we strive to exalt the name of Jesus Christ, knowing that if He is lifted up He will draw all men to Himself.
Music is a key element of our worship, just as it has been for the Lord's people throughout the centuries. This is evidenced in that after God delivered the people of Israel through the Red Sea, Exodus 15 records that Moses and Miriam responded by leading the people in singing songs of deliverance and praise. Throughout the Psalms, God's people are encouraged and even commanded to sing songs of praise and to make music unto the Lord. The Psalmist tells us that the Lord is enthroned upon the praises of His people, meaning that the presence of the Lord is pleased to dwell with us when we worship Him together.
Music is a means of corporate worship in which we all participate. Worship is not a spectator sport. At FBC Mossy Head we do not put on a show to entertain those in attendance, nor do we seek production value. Instead, we seek to invite all to join in as our musicians lead us in worship. We desire to make the effort to bring a sacrifice of praise to our exalted King. Everyone has something to offer. To that end, recognizing that music is a language of its own, we utilize a blend of musical styles -- older and newer expressions of praise -- so that all have an opportunity to offer worship in the musical "dialect" with which they are most familiar.
While music is a large element, it is not the only way in which we may participate in worship. We seek to enable all worshippers to utilize their God-given gifts to contribute to our collective offering of worship. Keep reading to see some of the ways you may join us in offering worship to the Lord.
Choir
Our sanctuary choir rehearses on Sunday evenings at 7 to present special musical offerings at our Sunday morning services as well as seasonal programs at various times of the year. Membership in the choir is open to any who wish to assist in leading in worship through this ministry and who are able to regularly rehearse with the group. Contact Bro. Lew Dolan for more information.
Orchestra
Our orchestra is composed of loving volunteers blessed with gifts to play a variety of instruments: strings, brass, keys, percussion, etc. They rehearse on Sundays at 4 PM and play for nearly all worship services. If you play an instrument and desire to use your gifts to honor the Lord in worship, contact Bro. Lew Dolan to find out how to play along.
Worship Arts
All fine arts can be worship arts if used in honor of the Lord. We have individuals who are gifted in ASL who sign songs at times. There may be opportunities to display paintings or sculpture as offerings of worship. Those with gifts for acting may participate in drama ministries. The possibilities are endless. Contact Bro. Lew or the pastor with questions.
Acts of Service in Worship
If your gift is one of service that you wish to offer in worship, there are opportunities for you also. We have individuals who assist candidates for baptism when we celebrate that Holy Ordinance. We also have floral arrangements that may be provided. We have items such as guest cards, prayer cards and pens that must be occasionally restocked for worship. What would you like to do? "...whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him" (Col 3:17).
